News from 2006/2007

On April 27th, the VNA/SCC held an event to recognize the 2006 Nightingale Awards for Excellence in Nursing Scholarships Winners.  Five deserving nursing students from Gateway Community College, Quinnipiac University, Sacred Heart University, Southern Connecticut State University, and Yale University will each receive a $1,000 scholarship.

According to Joanne Walsh, whose leadership at the VNA/SCC as President and CEO helped to start the Nightingale program, it has generated enough funds too offer financial support to nursing students.  Working together with other healthcare leaders in our region, the Nightingale Awards for Excellence in Nursing was created in 2001 to both celebrate and elevate the profession of nursing.  Walsh stated that, "Awarding scholarships to area nursing schools will provide support and recognition to the future nurses."  She added, "These students show great potential in becoming the recipients of the Nightingale Award for Excellence in Nursing."
